THE STORY

This cottage is located on a bluff in a wooded lot with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and near the Gay Head cliffs of Aquinnah, MA. Our program was to design the main living spaces on the Upper Floor with wrap around decks – to take the best advantage of the available natural light and ocean views. Locating the Master Bedroom suite on the Upper Floor also accommodates a more efficient use of the space – for those Winter months where the Lower Floor is perhaps not in use. The Lower Floor has two additional Bedrooms, also oriented towards the ocean views and has direct access to a stone Terrace on the SW side of the house. There is also a Bath and the Laundry Rm. on the Lower Floor.

Another feature of the house was to minimize the two-story profile by building the house into the naturally steep hillside which then offers a direct connection of the parking area to the Upper Floor entrance.
