THE STORY
This Residence is located on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. It was designed with careful consideration of the landscape – with particular orientation/ juxtaposition between a large boulder, a vernal pond and a cluster of mature blueberry bushes. Other important site features that informed the house placement were the natural contours of the site, the 200 year old hand-built stone walls, several pastoral meadows, a brick barn and a small grove of apple trees.
The interior of the building was to be designed with clean detail lines which “brought the outside to the inside”. The Floor Plan is organized into three areas which each have a unique functions relative to the public and private realm, each with it’s distinct connection to the views and landscape.
The exterior of the building was designed to minimize the visual impact to the natural landscape with an organic approach to implement low profile roof lines and natural materials – such as wood, granite, glass and metal.
